Lappish Chicken Seasoning flavours chicken and other birds, as well as game and vegetable dishes. Add some to you dish and enjoy the full flavours of oregano, basil and sage. In addition to the familiar herbs, there’s an exciting hint of hyssop and dragonhead.

Basil comes from Asia and Africa. Most likely basil reached Europe along with the troops of Alexander the Great in the 4th century BC. Basil was a sacred plant for the ancient Romans. Its powers could weaken if the plant was not treated with respect. There was even a special tool used to pick basil so the sanctity of the herb was not disgraced. Basil derives from Greek basileus meaning king.
Sage is one of the oldest medicinal herbs dating back 6,000 years. Sage soothes coughs, infections and menopausal symptoms, and lowers blood sugar levels. The name originates from Latin salvare, to heal. The common Latin phrase asks: Cur moriatum homo cui salvia croscit in horto? Why should a man die whilst sage grows in his garden?
Nettle has been an important source of fibre. It yields a fine fabric that earlier only the gentry could afford. As nettle was much softer than linen and it was used for lavish underwear.
The scent of coriander is like two different personalities. The name of the herb originates from the Greek words koris or koros for bedbug. The ripe fruit of coriander however smells and tastes of orange. Leaf oil can be extracted from the leaves and other green parts of the plant that are used for example for perfumes such as Chanel No.5.
